Devotion #2

Pslam 23:1-6
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.
The book of Psalms in the old testament is filled with prayers and songs. A lot of them are from one dude. This guy was David; the one who killed the giant, Goliath. The same David that became king and fought on behalf of the Lord. However, things didn’t always go well for David. After he was a shepherd, but before he became king, his life was under constant threat. His best friend’s Dad was the current king. His name was Saul and he hated David. On more than one occasion Saul tried to kill David. Saul forced David to live life on the run. It was a rough time for David, but even then David would remain positive and keep thinking of how God was looking out for him. Psalm 23 is one of the most Iconic prayers in the Bible, and I think we can learn a lot from it by knowing what David was going through when he wrote it. READ Psalm 23 and reflect on it.
  1. How do you think David could say his cup overflows with blessings in such a rough time in his life?
  2. How has God provided for you in your low moments?
  3. What does it mean that God is with you? How should that affect us?
  4. How could praying this prayer daily change us in our day to day?
