What We Believe
Greentree Christian Church is an independent non-denominational fellowship of believers in Christ. We intend to be relevant in our cultural situation without compromising the clear teaching of the Bible. The statements below are not intended to be a complete explanation of what this congregation believes. It is an attempt to put some of the essentials into a concise form for you to thoughtfully and prayerfully consider.
About Scripture: The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are inspired by God, without error in the original writings, and are God's standard for all Christians.
(2 Tim 3:16-17; Psalm 119:9-16)
About God: God is the Creator and Sustainer of everything that exists. He is one God manifesting Himself in three persons - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each have the same nature, are co-equal and co-existent.
(Gen 1 & 2; John 14:15-21; Col 1:15-20)
About Jesus Christ: Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He is truly God and truely Man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He was sinless, yet He gave his life for the sins of the world by dying on the cross in accordance with the Scriptures. He alone can restore man's relationship with God. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God, and is our great Priest and Advocate. The return of Jesus Christ is a "Blessed Hope" to be eagerly anticipated by Christians.
(Isaiah 53; Matt 1:18-25; 1 Cor 5:1-8; Heb 1:1-4, 2:17; John 1:1-4, 14:6; Col 1:15-20; I Thes 3:11-13; 4:13-18)
About the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is fully God, theThird Person of the Trinity, the Spirit of God and Christ, and the convictor of sins. He enters the Christians upon salvation and is our Helper, Comforter, Counselor, and Guide. Christians grow in spiritual maturity by the Spirit living within them.
(John 14:15-21, 26; Eph 1:13-14; Col 1:9-12; Rom 8:26; John 16:7-8)
About Man and Sin: Man is created in the image and likeness of God. The first man, Adam, rebelled against God. fell from a right relationship with Him, and in so doing, introduced sin and death into the world. We inherited Adam's sinful, fallen nature and are all sinners.
(Gen 1:26-27, 3:13-17; Rom 3:23, 5:12-13; 1 Cor 15:21-23)
About Salvation: God sent Jesus Christ to save mankind from sins and restore man's relationship with God so that we can live with Him forever. Jesus was sacrificed on the cross, died, was resurrected, and paid for the sins of all. Man can do nothing to earn his salvation. Salvation is by grace - a free gift of God accepted through a personal faith and belief in Jesus Christ.
(Rom 3:10-24, 6:23, 10:9-10; Eph 2:1-10; John 3:16, 36; Rev 3:20)
About Faith: Our relationship with God begins with faith. We are saved by God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.
(Eph 2:8; Rom 5:1)
About the Church: The church is the Body of Christ and consists of all people who believe in and follow Jesus Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God through worship, Bible teaching, service, discipleship, fellowship, prayer, and sharing Christ with others.
(Acts 2:42, 46-47; 1 Cor 12:12-13; Rom 12:4-8; Eph 2:19-22, 5:18-21; 1 Pet 2:1-6)
